Whether you’re heading to the bustling streets of Mexico City<\/a>, the beautiful beaches of Tulum<\/a>, or the historic wonders of Chichen Itza<\/a>, knowing what to expect can make all the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start by checking travel advisories and local news to get an idea of the current situation. In general touristic cities in Mexico are very safe, but if you have to travel on the road is better to do it during daylight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look into the cultural norms and legal requirements, such as dress codes and identification laws. If you are going to a touristic city and you plan to stay just in the “tourist’s zone” is pretty safe, but if you want to explore more, just like in any other city in the world, check the specific zones to avoid and the best hours to move around different places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep your valuables secure and out of sight, and consider using a money belt or a theft-proof backpack, mainly in public transportation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When enjoying the nightlife, try to stay in groups, watch your drinks, and always have a plan for getting back to your accommodation safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s also wise to keep digital copies of important documents like your passport, driver’s license, and travel insurance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, but check with your provider about international roaming charges. Alternatively, consider purchasing a local SIM card for data and calls, is very cheap and you can do it in any Oxxo (very famous convenience store).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you may know Mexican food<\/a> is one of the best in the world, but if its your first time in Mexico take it easy without eating too much at the beginning and tasting little portions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember that a lot of Mexican food is spicy, and street food<\/a> (besides being very good) sometimes is not prepared in 100% clean environments like a restaurant, for some first time visitors that are not used to it, this can be like a bomb to their stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it safe to drink tap water in Mexico? <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It’s generally recommended to avoid drinking tap water in Mexico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even in some places like Cancun<\/a> and Riviera Maya<\/a> where the water is not dirty it doesn’t taste very well and is salty, better opt for bottled water or water that has been purified or boiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
